Shop is out of beta, with Mollie payments built in

Justflows Shop 0.1.7 is ready for real stores. Mollie is integrated in full: checkout, refunds, captures, automatic subscription renewals and a payment flow that stays correct when things go wrong.

Shop, the Justflows plugin for catalog, cart, checkout and orders, is out of beta. Version 0.1.7 is the first release we are happy to call ready for real stores, and it comes with a fully integrated payment gateway: Mollie. Here is what that means and what you can do with it today.

Why it is no longer a beta

During the beta we kept finding the same kind of problem: a payment notification arriving twice, a customer coming back from the payment page at the same moment Mollie reported the payment, a refund that timed out halfway. Each of those can cost a merchant money or trust. The last releases were mostly about closing those gaps, so that orders, stock and money stay correct when things go wrong.
  • A payment is applied once. Every verified notification is stored once in a webhook inbox. A repeat, or a notification that races the customer's return, marks the order paid once, with one email and one stock change.
  • Nothing gets charged or refunded twice. Captures, voids and refunds carry an idempotency key. Two clicks at once are refused while the first is still open.
  • A background job repairs what slipped. Every five minutes Shop releases expired stock holds, retries failed notifications, finishes payment actions that stopped without an outcome, and asks Mollie about payments whose webhook never arrived.
  • Failed payments keep the cart. If a payment fails, is cancelled or expires, the shopper returns to checkout with their items, sees why, and can pick another method. They also get a Payment failed email with a link to finish paying the same order.
  • Order statuses follow the money. Paid, Refunded and the other payment statuses are set by payments and refunds only, so a status change can never mark an order paid by accident.

Mollie, integrated in full

Mollie is the gateway we built Shop's payments around, and it covers the whole life of a payment rather than just the checkout redirect.
  • Setup in a minute. Open Commerce → Payments → Mollie, paste your sandbox and live API keys, and press Test connection. Keys are stored encrypted and never shown again. There is nothing to register in Mollie's dashboard: each payment tells Mollie where to report back.
  • Your methods, your way. Send customers to Mollie's own checkout page, or offer the methods active on your Mollie profile (such as iDEAL, cards, Bancontact, PayPal or Apple Pay) as separate choices that go straight to that method, with or without their logos.
  • Rich payments. Each payment includes the order lines with tax, billing and shipping addresses, the visitor's language and the order ids, so it reads properly in your Mollie dashboard.
  • Capture, cancel and refund from the order. Refund all or part of a payment, mark which items it covers, put them back in stock and refund shipping. A refund you already made in Mollie can be recorded without sending it again.
  • Subscriptions that renew by themselves. The first payment saves the customer's card, PayPal account or bank account (as SEPA Direct Debit) with Mollie, and Shop charges each renewal without the customer. Failed renewals are retried after 1, 3 and 5 days before the subscription goes on hold and the customer gets a link to pay.
  • Test mode. With Sandbox / test mode on, checkout opens Mollie's test payment page, so you can run through the whole flow before you take a real euro.
For now Mollie is the only payment method Shop offers. Stripe, PayPal, Adyen and the others stay hidden until they are integrated and tested to the same level. We would rather ship one gateway that works in every edge case than several that mostly work.

What else is in Shop

  • Products with variations, subscriptions, downloads, stock and an inventory report with CSV export.
  • Discount codes, gift cards and store credit, with a use history per order.
  • Tax per rate and per address, invoices, custom order numbers and order emails in five languages.
  • Shipping zones with flat rates, free shipping and local pickup, plus live DHL Express rates, carrier labels for PostNL and DHL Express, and hourly parcel tracking that marks orders Delivered.
  • A customer account at /account with details, orders and subscriptions.
  • A versioned /api/shop/v1 API with an OpenAPI description, and signed webhooks for orders, payments, refunds, shipments and subscriptions.

Getting started

Shop is free and installs from the Justflows plugin registry. Install it, add your Mollie test key, put a product in the cart and pay it on Mollie's test page. When that works, add your live key and switch off test mode.
